Section B - Satan's tactics

Satan's two primary tactics are...

  • To attack the lusts of your flesh. Section C explains how you can deal with these attacks.
  • To use your emotional crises and disappointments to gain advantage over you. Section D explains how to defend yourself in these situations.

Section C - Protecting yourself from yourself

We have met the enemy and he is us

Even when we want always to please God, we still feel the nearly irresistible TUG OF LUST. (Rom 7.15)

Per First John 2.16, the "Tug of Lust" is threefold...

  • Lust of the flesh - sinful appetites for illicit sex, overeating, drugs, sensual pleasure
  • Lust of the eyes - sinful cravings to observe and enjoy the sins of others
  • Pride of life - lusting for money, power, fame

When you allow the tug of lust to draw you to the brink of sinning, Satan will always be there to give you that last fatal shove.

But remember - it's YOU who will get yourself to the brink in the first place. (Jam 1.14)

For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. (Rom 7.15)

For all that is in the world, the
lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. (1 John 2.16)

But every man is tempted, when he is
drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. (Jam 1.14)

Stay away from the brink

As noted, a main point for Satan's attack is the tug of your own lusts. Therefore, step one in protecting yourself from Satan is...

PROTECT YOURSELF FROM YOURSELF!

How can you protect yourself from yourself? There is no one formula that applies to everybody. You KNOW your own fleshly weaknesses.
Knowing your weaknesses, YOU must plan how (with God's help) to defeat them.

EXAMPLE... Andy's job required him to travel to lots of places where sex was readily available.

The first trip Andy took was terribly tempting. Worse yet, this was before Andy got saved. Over the three days that Andy was away, he spent so much time taking cold showers that he sloshed when he walked.

When Andy got back home he vowed to be better prepared to fight his lusts on the next trip.

  • First thing Andy did was to get his wedding ring sized down so that he could NOT remove it. This may sound silly to you, but it reminded him (and everyone else) that he had MADE A PROMISE.
  • Next, Andy made a photograph of his wife and baby daughter looking straight into the camera. Andy swore to himself that he would ALWAYS have that picture at his bedside wherever he traveled. And he did.
  • Thereafter, Andy could do anything in his hotel room that he wanted to, but his wife and child would be watching. It worked!
  • Later, after Andy got saved, he always put a Bible right next to the picture, to remind him that God was watching, too. Insurance against his weakness.

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. (1 Cor 10.13)

(Jesus said:) "And if
your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell." (Mt 5.29-30)

Feet, don't fail me now!

If your weaknesses get weaker in certain places, or around certain people, then stay away from those places, and have nothing to do with those people.

FLEE TEMPTATION!

God will ALWAYS give you a way out. (1 Cor 10.13)

Pluck out your eye if you have to, or chop off your arm if you must (Matthew 5.29-30). In essence, Jesus said, "Forget the excuses. WHATEVER is necessary to protect yourself from yourself, GET IT DONE!"

Section D - Protecting yourself from Satan and his troops

On guard!

In the garden of Eden, God warned Adam to be on guard against an enemy. Adam heeded not God's warning. Disaster ensued.

In 1 Peter 5.8 God now gives you the same warning. Be vigilant!

Be especially wary during spiritual highs and lows.

  • When you have just enjoyed a great spiritual victory, Satan will come.
  • When you are in a valley of despair, Satan will come.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (1 Pet 5.8)

Turn off the red light!

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philip 4.6-7)

Philippians 4.6 uses the word "anxious."

Let's say that your ANXIETY is like a red light. That RED LIGHT beams from you into the heavens whenever you are in any of the following emotional states...

  • disappointed, depressed, despondent
  • desperate, doubting, dishonest
  • defiled, despicable, disobedient
  • drugged, distressed, deceitful
  • angry, stressed-out, hateful

Regular folks can't see that red light, but Satan CAN. Whenever Satan sees that light he shouts to his demons, "Okay boys, it's PARTY time!" And Satan's gang slides down that beam of light until they are right there with you.

When you are in a state of ANXIETY
you are very vulnerable, not only to Satan's attacks, but to the lusts of your own flesh.

What to do? Turn off the red light! As commanded by Philippians 4.6-7, pray for the peace of God to GUARD your heart and mind through Christ Jesus.

Wear the armor of God!

Your armor against spiritual attacks consists of...

  • truth
  • righteousness
  • the gospel
  • your faith
  • your salvation

Your SWORD is the word of God. Yea and it is verrrrrry sharp! (Heb 4.12)

We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Therefore
take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore...

  • having girded your waist with truth
  • having put on the breastplate of righteousness
  • and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace
  • above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
  • And take the helmet of salvation
  • and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Eph 6.12-17)

Stand therefore!

So the Lord said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person.'' (Job 1.12)

And having done all, to STAND. Stand therefore! (Eph 6.13c)

Therefore...

  • submit to God.
  • Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (Jam 4.7)

Notice that the armor of God (Eph 6.12-17) covers only the front of your body. It offers NO PROTECTION whatever for your tender, round little backside.

Also take note that Satan may only attack you with God's permission. (Job 1.9-12)

Why does God sometimes allow Satan to attack you? God does so for the same reason that He gives you armor which doesn't protect your rear.

Namely, God wants you to learn to face evil and defeat it.

  • God wants you to learn to face temptation and resist it.
  • God wants you to learn how to draw your battle power, not from yourself, but by submitting to Him!
  • God wants you to learn to STAND AND FIGHT!

When Satan attacks you - whether you are child or adult, strong or weak -- if you submit yourself unto God, you shall have the FULL POWER OF GOD in you!

Stand therefore, and Satan WILL flee.

Section E - Satan's final destiny

For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew,
Armageddon. (Rev 16.14, 16.16; NKJV)

Armageddon

On a dire, dreadful day in the future, Satan will make one final attempt to prevent Messiah's return. His method for doing this will be to seek again the total destruction of Israel.

Satan's armies will be gathered from throughout the world. These armies will begin massing in the plains of Israel, in the vicinity of a hill called Har Megiddo, near the city of Jerusalem.

Thus will begin the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

Very shortly after this battle commences, it will seem inevitable that the Jewish nation and its people will be totally wiped out - every man, every woman, every child of them. Satan will take NO PRISONERS.

Israel receives their Messiah

Just as it appears that Satan has achieved his greatest victory, however, the remaining Jews will recognize Jesus as their Messiah and call upon Him to save them.

And Jesus WILL save them.

Good news for Israel.

Baaaad news for Satan!

(Israel calls on Messiah Jesus) Come, and let us return to the Lord; for He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up. (Hos 6.1)

(Messiah Jesus responds) And
I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they have pierced (crucified)... And the land (Israel) shall mourn (repent) (Zech 12.10a, 12.12a; NKJV)
Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He (Messiah Jesus) who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.

He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And
the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. (Rev 19.11, 19.13-14)

And I saw the beast (antichrist), the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to
make war against Him (Messiah Jesus) who sat on the horse and against His army. (Rev 19.19)

The battle is joined

Messiah Jesus and His armies will come down from heaven, riding white horses.

Are you a Christian? Then you shall be following close behind your Lord. Astride a white horse. Riding with Him to glory. Halleluyah!

Messiah will confront Satan's armies near a place called Bozrah.

Are you a great warrior, dear Christian? Shalom (peace). Sheath thy weapon. The battle is the LORD's!

And the rest (Satan's armies) were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him (Messiah Jesus) who sat on the horse. (Rev 19.21a)

Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and
he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while. (Rev 20.1-3)

The battle is over!

With but a single word, Messiah defeats the enemy.

  • The hellish armies are destroyed.
  • Satan himself is bound and cast into prison.
  • Thus begins the Kingdom Age. But that's another topic, for another page, for another day.

Satan's last stand and final destiny

After 1000 years, God will release Satan from his prison in the abussos.

Why will God release His enemy? God doesn't say. My GUESS is that our gracious and merciful God has given Satan one final chance to repent - a thousand years to think things over.

Some have asked if God would forgive Satan if Satan ever repented. I am firmly convinced that He would.

In any event, Satan does NOT repent but launches yet one more futile attempt to destroy God's people. And this is THE END of God's tolerance for Satan's rebellion.

At long last, the devil is once and for all banished.
Satan's final and eternal destiny is Gehenna - the lake of fire!

How sad that so many folks will have CHOSEN to go to the lake of fire with Satan.

Dash 30 dash. Amen!

Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea.

  • They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city.
  • And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.
  • And the devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are.
  • And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. (Rev 20.7-10)
