By Studying Prophecy, You WILL Be Blessed
Quarterback on a white horse |
||
Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. (Rev 19.11, NKJV) |
||
I used to be a fan of the Dallas Cowboys (until they fired Tom Landry). One Sunday afternoon my kids and I watched the Cowboys play the San Francisco 49ers. Everybody rooted for the 49ers except me. By the time the first half ended, the Cowboys were getting totally creamed. I was enduring more razzing from the kids than I could handle, so I announced I would mow the lawn. I mowed VERY slowly, to make doggone sure I didn't have to put up with more misery during the second half. When I came back into the house, I noticed the kids weren't rubbing it in. Grudgingly they admitted that the Cowboys had rallied and achieved a miraculous victory. I had video-taped the game, so Tuesday night I sat down to relish the whole thing. In the first half I no longer moaned when the Cowboys messed up again and again. In fact, I sneered with satisfaction when the 49ers ran up the score and started taunting the Cowboys. |
I was bummed-out watching the game on Sunday, but I relished every
moment of that same game on Tuesday.
It's no wonder we win. After all -- look who we have for Quarterback! |
Knowing your glorious future |
||
(Our beloved Quarterback, Jesus Christ, said:) "No longer do I call
you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you." (John 15.15, NKJV) Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets. (Amos 3.7, NKJV) |
As you look to your future and live it, Lord Jesus wants you to KNOW what in the world God is doing today-- and will do tomorrow. God gave you prophecy for many reasons. This page lists just five of them, as follows:
|
|
So read and rejoice in the many blessings that God will lay on you as you study His prophecies. |
Prophecy is for bringing peace to your heart |
||
(Jesus said:) "Let
not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me... I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also." (John 14.1 & 14.3, NKJV) |
In John 14.1 Jesus eases your mind by saying, "Let not your heart be troubled." Jesus then gives you a prophecy of His soon return as the reason WHY you should have peace and confidence. |
|
For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the
voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. (1 Thes 4.16-18, NKJV) |
1 Thessalonians 4.13-18 gives yet another prophecy of the Lord's return.
|
Prophecy is for growing your faith |
||
Over 25% of the Bible is prophecy!
|
(Jesus said:) "Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He." (John 13.19, NKJV) |
Prophecy is for keeping you ready and waiting |
||
(Jesus said:) "Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not expect Him." (Mt 24.44, NKJV) |
||
The Streaker |
||
I had a bad habit in the early days of my marriage, before we had any
kids. Namely, after taking a shower I would make a dash for the bedroom wearing
nothing but a smile. My wife repeatedly scolded me about this but, heck, what was the harm? Then one day, as I made yet another mad dash in the nude, there in the hallway stood a neighbor lady who had come to visit. She found the situation quite amusing but I blushed so much that I literally glowed for the next few hours. Believe you me, my UNEXPECTED VISITOR effected a permanent cure of my streaking habit. |
In Mt 24.44, Jesus alerts you that He, too, will SOON be an unexpected visitor to Planet Earth. One day soon -- perhaps even today -- you will hear a heavenly shout, quickly followed by a trumpet's blare, and Whoosh! In the twinkling of an eye, you will be in the presence of the Lord Jesus! Can you think of anything that you would NOT want to be saying, doing, or thinking in that instant? A goal of prophecy is to encourage you to live each and every day ready and waiting for the Lord's soon return. Why? So that you may meet Him unashamed, and joyfully hear the words, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." |
Prophecy is for giving you joy in living holy |
||
Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near. (Rev 1.3, NIV) | "Blessed" means "Oh! How happy!" To be "blessed" is to be overflowing with joy. Revelation 1.3 tells you that reading and hearing the words of prophecy will fill you with joy, but with one condition. Namely, you must take prophecy to heart. |
|
And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day (of the Lord's return) is at hand. (Rom 13.11-14, NKJV) | Prophecy should fill your heart with a sense of urgency for living holy, and for telling others that "the night is far spent, the day is at hand." |
Prophecy is for showing you that God is in control |
||
(Jesus said:) "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows." (Mt 24.7-8, NKJV) | God's prophecies warn us that, as the time draws near for the Lord's return, world conditions are going to go from bad to worse. There will be one war after another, as well as earthquakes, worldwide epidemics, and famines. Christians will be increasingly persecuted for their beliefs. And folks, I am talking about events BEFORE the Tribulation, not the Tribulation itself.
(God said:) "Even from the beginning I have declared it (the future) to you; before it came to pass I proclaimed it to you, lest you should say, `My idol has done them, and my carved image and my molded image have commanded them.' " (Isa 48.5, NKJV) | Isaiah 48.5 teaches you that God prophecies the future to reassure you as you witness these terrible events. God wants you to know that He IS in control. Not Satan. Not world leaders, no matter how powerful. Not luck, good or bad. God!
We also have the prophetic word made more sure, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; (1 Pet 1.19, NKJV) | What then should you do as you see world conditions grow ever darker? You should do two things. First -- SHINE the light of prophecy for your unsaved friends (1 Pet 1.19).
(Jesus said:) "And when these (bad) things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.'' (Lk 21.28, KJV) | Secondly, and MOST joyously, "Look up... for your redemption draweth nigh." (Lk 21.28) |
God's final words |
He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming quickly.'' Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. (Rev 22.20-21, NKJV) |
